Stated another way, the margin of the field of view is limited by physical features of the lens assembly 704, rather than by the camera opening or transparent area 712 of the front cover plate 708. Such a substantially large camera opening or transparent area 712 enables a substantially wide angle view for the doorbell camera 106 when a wide angle lens assembly is applied. In some implementations, the front cover plate 708 includes a substantially opaque area that is distinct from the substantially transparent area of the camera opening 712. An interior surface of the substantially opaque area is painted with dark color ink e. g. , black ink. The dark color ink could be transparent to infrared light, such that the substantially opaque area is opaque to visible light and transparent to infrared light.
